DAY 2: nun spy

A French orphan was raised in an nunnery to become a sister of the cloth. He's the Catholic church's ultimate weapon of sin and seduction - who can resist conquering her vow of chastity?

He kills for a living but still goes to church on Sundays. He teaches young orphans, like he once was, how to read in the convent. When church is over, his guns come out and along with his head-to-toe latex.

DAY 8: Nurse

Striving to surpass man, he mangled himself into a seraph. On his face, a mask made of his old flesh. On his body, a habit to cover his new flesh.

IDK, he takes care of the weak and sick and flies through the window like Mary Poppins. But also he occasionally takes away the dying and dead bodies. For science! He rejects god, he wants to be god. He wants to FUCK god.

DAY 18: lobotomized

Since he was a child, the doctor’s head was always burning in pain. He could heal others but not himself. No one else would or could diagnosis him.

He could put on his masks of a smile and grin for work, he understood how humans mingled mindlessly with each other, but he couldn’t truly feel the emotions he was expected to in a social situation. Was it simple psychopathy? Boredom with the banality of existence?

He drilled into his frontal lobe to test a hypothesis, and perhaps discover what was wrong. The seraph is fated to continuously descends and burns into nothingness, and ascends again to burn once more. Eventually its ascension will overcome the god that cursed it with its fate.

(Images of angels are symbolic. They are nonexistent yet exist. Everything means something, something means nothing, nothing means not. Yippee!)

Stuff written for me!

• "A Beginner's Guide to Blackmail" (NSFW) by TeratoMarty is based on my weed Scout n' sensei Spy!! I'm so totally stoked cuz it pretty much perfectly encapsulates how awkward Scout's attempts at "blackmail" and sex are, and how goddamn tired Spy is of being dicked around. Warning for dubcon, it plays with the power dynamic of that in a fun way!

• "L'risque" (NSFW) by DrRektor is based on me n' DrRektor's discussions for Scout's masturbatory habits :^) Very short, very pathetic Scout.

• "Don't get ahead of yourself, you might regret it" (NSFW) by Mikiri_Tohoshima is a Scout and BLU Spy head fic I requested, with the prompt "kidnapping".. you know what happens next.

SFW

• "Monzon" by Summersgone is based on my Scout and Spy -- Ollie and Basile. I may be biased because they're my characters.. but I just love how moody and gloomy it is. And there's just TINY displays of affection that mean nothing but feel like everything. It's beautiful!

• "Epistolar" by Summersgone is a SUPERB fic exploring Scout and Spy's semi-abrasive, platonic (yet ambiguous) friendship in the battleground of an office rather than the desert. The characterization of Scout as an over-affectionate friend, and Spy as someone who's aware of these attempts to court friendship but attempts to push them away... that's TOTALLY chef's kiss. It's in Spanish.

• "Lecho de Compasion" by Summersgone made me cry. Scout finds a baby bird and deals with taking care of it. The focus isn't exactly Scout and Spy's relationship, but it's a very fine character study of how they both deal with their issues in their own (similar yet different) ways.

• "Pastoral" by Summersgone is a nice quickie fic with that good ol' grumpy Spy and buggy Scout interaction!

• “Overhand, Underhand” by SugarMagic is a CLASSIC. Mostly SFW with some non-explicit sexual stuff that Scout gets up to. Nice long-ish read, SLOW BURN and fluffy n’ indulgent. And I can’t get over how it ends. Spy’s such a tease to Scout, much more flirtatious and reciprocal than I'd usually write him, and it's very satisfying. Scout pursues Spy and emotionally tops AND ends up being a protector of sorts to Spy huhuhuh.

• “Window Art” by Banimals. Very short, cute as fuk. The whole team compliments Scout’s art, and I believe this fic was written before Expiration Date when it's revealed that Scout likes to draw :,)

• “Joyeux Noel” by babyblueavenger is a (gasp) SFW Spy & Scout christmas fluff. Not necessarily a pairing, but it’s a D*dspy that I accept cuz it’s super ambiguous. I just like Spy and Scout interacting man, I like dialogue between ‘em. Plus it’s a rather cute idea that Scout (from irish-american Boston) and Spy (from Catholic-dominated France) would accidentally meet at church. Content warning ambiguous DADSPY.

NSFW

• “Saudade” by Banimals is one of my fav Scout/Spy fics, it gives me what the kids call da feelz. Amputation kinda. It’s sweet and cute and I could talk about it all day. Spy in an apron, cooking and cleaning, is my motherfucking waifu. I talk big talk about Spy not caring for Scout and friendzoning him, but..BUT.... I love caring mommy Spy... I JUST NEED! LOVE AND AFFECTION!

• “make me come alive (turn me on)” by ??? is smutty-with-some-feelingz Spy/Scout. WITH CATBOYS. My god. It's bottom Scout, but ok in my book so you KNOW it must be good! Scout goes after Spy and Spy is nice to Scout, and it's ok for Spy to top if he's kind of monstery. The writer knows how to get across painful fever feelings too well. And it’s really sweet at the end. D-d-don’t tell anyone but… I like Spy being nice to Scout and reassuring him… oh, and warning for catboy knotting.

• "Celebrity Fear" by Anonymous. Excellent fappy-time Scout with a side of pathetique-ness, it's one-sided attraction with Spy having NO IDEA who Scout is, and Scout NEVER getting laid, which is absolutely perfect for me. Scout's a nasty greasy basement dwelling lad in this fic, and I can't help but feel called out...

  • "Beat Your Meat 'N' Greet" by Anonymous is the continuation to Celebrity Fear!! Dubcon warning! I requested that the author write more of this Scout and Spy (Thaddaus!), and it's AMAZING. I love the power difference between a fanboy and his idol, but the power flip just makes everything SUPER JUICY. The descriptions of Scout's disgusting physicality and actions are WONDERFUL in contrast to Spy tryna keep it cool (but depressed!).

• "Act of Approach" by orphann_account is the Expiration Date AU we deserve. It's quite straightforward, and very satisfying. Cuz FINALLY. FINALLY!!! The homoerotic undertones of Spy asking Scout to seduce him are fufilled! Scout and Spy are very in character, and of course I love eager virgin Scout and tired seductress Spy.

• “Depth Charge” by unicornsandbutane is a nice looooong smutty-with-feelingz TentaSpy/Scout. One of the few Tentaspy fics that got me to read to the end. Scout bottoms (to tentacles), but he pursues Spy (tentacles!) so it’s all good in the hood. The Scout dialogue in this is really entertaining, he’s such a dingus. I like Scout stealing Spy’s stuff and fapping in this fic, classic Scout.

• “Shopping with Spy and Scout” by sillyscrunchy. With HUFFFF Scout topping. Kinda. Another one with a tease ending. No matter what, Scout just can’t get his dick real wet, huh? I know Scout was bout to put it in though...

• “Put Ur Fuckin Clothes Back On” by ElloMenoP. Ostensibly Scout wants to bottom, but hey he pursues and annoys Spy so it’s okey dokey. No-buttsex. Just fapping each other. The writing in this could be cleaned up a bit for clarity, but the core idea is very fun!

OTHER:

• "Like Father, Like Son" by DrScout is probably the most gut-wrenching fic Spy and Scout I've read. CW: gore, abuse, nonconsent, and I'd probably add nonsexual incest. It's not "shippy" in any romantic sense, there is no sex, and Spy is Scout's dad. But this is probably more emotionally torturous to me than any Spy/Scout fic tagged incest. The violation of body is akin to rape. This story made me upset without having literal incest and rape in it, so good job to it!!! It affected me so much that I wrote a whole twitter thread about it...

Why Girl Scouts?

What IS a femScout? WHY GIRL MODELS? A hopefully helpful definition for my Team Fortress 2 Girl Scout Zines.

First, we must address:

Why Scout?

This post by WritingCyan is a great synopsis of WHY SCOUT?

What I enjoy most about writing Scout is his mutability, the flexibility of his character. He can be the brash and obnoxious antagonist, but his overconfident attitude can also cover deep insecurities and a desperate longing for a father figure. He can be a comic relief or the unexpected voice of reason. You can even, if you’re good, justify turning him into a whimpering uke. He can be the blushing virgin, the exhibitionist (look at me, hey, look at me!), the voyeur, secretly a masochist, he can be so furious, so sweet, so broken.

A Scout character can be ANYTHING. You can change the base game character of a brash white boy from Boston, into a shy azn girl from Brooklyn, and it'll still feel "in character". Plus he's my favorite character in TF2 and my kintype, and there's such a rich mini-history of trendy tropes to slot him in.

And now we address:

Why GIRL Scouts?

Because girls are AWESOME!

I want to have more girls in male-dominated spaces! When I was growing up in fanspaces in the 2000's, there was so much irrational hatred for girl characters (think Sakura, Fuu, Orihime, Hermione and Ginny). Whether the characters were written well or not was irrelevent. The fact that they were presented as girls was enough for everyone's (internalized misogyny) to activate! How dare this GIRL get in the way of our MANLY adventures and yaoiz?!?!

Even though things are better in modern fandom, it's almost always male characters that receive the most attention. Probably because most media depicts male characters, with maybe one lady sidekick. Even TF2 falls to this imbalance: 9 men, and Miss Pauling and The Administrator. There were female characters planned in the wonderful concept art, but Valve never got around to implementing them. That speaks volumes about how male characters are considered the generic default in most games, and girls are considered an unnecessary afterthought.

The official female Scout designs are quite a good base to build on, because they show that Valve actually did want some form of that ever-vaunted "diversity" in their game about 7 white men. I interpret these Scouts as a Latina Scout, a Black Scout, and a white Scout, and they all showcase base Scout characteristics like brattiness, exuberance, and small-framed athleticism.

I'm personally VERY inspired by the fan creations of female characters in TF2! Girl Scouts can come in genderbend, self-insert, or original character flavors!

My personal favorite Scout character, as many may know, is from the Scout-Chan OP. It's SO different from the "canon" Scout -- but it feels so right to make her into a zombie fighting schoolgirl who crushes on her teacher! Especially because Uberchain used the default model for Scout to make him a Scout-chan. There are so many attempts to "feminize" Scout into a female character that squish the face and make the model look strange, but simply keeping the model as-is is just so effective! Girls don't have to look a certain way!

Even the notorious squished-face Femscout model is inspirational in a way, because it made me want to design my own take on a girl Scout character that fits my own taste.

There's something about GIRLHOOD that a female Scout evokes, that anyone regardless of age or gender can relate to due to a Scout's mutability. Girls should be able to enjoy "cringy" things like Twilight and yaoi manga! Girls can look however they want, and dress however they want! Girls can be average schoolgirls, or adult women who bash people's heads with a baseball bat for a living. They don't have to have the generic Scout traits - Girls can be Black, white, Asian, Latina, indigenous, trans, gay, fat, autistic, diabetic, missing a leg, EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING! As long as they like to be girls, and Scouts!

and so. GIRL SCOUTS RULE!!
